FBC Toowoomba
Letter From the President
2011 has started out to be an emotionally draining year for many families in Queensland and around Australia. We would like to send our condolences to Sarah Norman (one of our caseload mums) and her family who sadly lost her parents in the Toowoomba/Lockyer Valley floods.
On a more uplifting note 2011 is looking to be a wonderful year as we anticipate many babies being born in our new Birth Centre which officially opened last November. We have seen a few changes with our midwives this year with Anne changing career directions and Ros temporarily moving over to private midwifery. We’d like to welcome back Suzanne who is replacing Ros. We are also looking forward to hearing news of a new midwife coming on board.
This year we are looking forward to listening to a number of topic presenters including a Do Re Mi teacher specialising in music for 0-3 years, RACQ discussing child restraints, homeopathy and naturopathy for children and post natal well being. We are also hoping to have a physio come and talk about prenatal and postnatal exercises to strengthen those all important pelvic floor muscles.
So...have you done your kegels today?
As mentioned above, Sarah Norman not only lost both her parents to the recent flooding, but she and her family lost everything they had. When flash flooding trapped them in their home, Sam their 2...0 year old son was able to save his 15 year old sister Victoria by pushing her up into the manhole and when he tried to assist his parents they were swept away in the floods when a side of the house disintegrated. Sarah has now been catapulted into the role of mother and guardian of her 15 year old sister. Any assistance to this family would be greatly appreciated

About us
Friends of the Birth Centre (FBC) Toowoomba are excited to announce that the birth centre is now open!
We are currently holding coffee mornings once a month to create a support network of friends and resources for new families. Some of the resources that will be available to families are books, DVDs and baby carriers/slings.
We have a morning tea with our midwives on the 2nd Friday of the month at the Laurel Bank Hall from 10-12pm. Feel free to come along and catch up with other mums and your midwives. Please bring a plate of morning tea along to share. Tea and coffee is provided.
