Our next MC meeting is going to be very exciting and a real chance for us to get our voice heard.

As we all know, QLDers will soon be heading to the polling booths (election isn't yet announced) and it's time for us to start campaigning and reminding all the sitting MPs and candidates hoping to get elected, of maternity care issues affecting women across QLD.

The seat of Ashgrove is a key seat this election, a marginal seat held by the ALP and it's where the Opposition Leader, Campbell Newman is hoping to win.  So the Liberal National Party are focused on this seat as it's crucial for them to win to get Campbell into Parliament House.  ALP is equally focused on this to keep the Opposition Leader out of the House!!

So our next meeting is in this crucial electorate and MC supporters' house Corinne and Ben Sankey.  Kate Jones the MP for Ashgrove has agreed to MC’s request that we also invite Campbell Newman (leader of LNP and her rival in this seat) and the Greens Candidate – Sarah.  So we have just invited both the LNP and Greens and await their response.

We are also hoping that other candidates for this seat might come along as well.

This is an invaluable opportunity for us to clearly articulate what we want from our maternity services here in QLD.  We need to gain strong bi-partisan support of the continuty of carer targets that the curernt Govt has committed to – ensuring that 10% of all births in QLD public hospital occur in a continuity of carer model by 2013.

The number may seem small, but it’s  a big task for many hospitals and could just well be the critical mass we need to tip on-going reform and roll-out
Of continuity of carer models throughout QLD.

So we need lots of supporters to come along so we have  a strong presence and can show how strong maternity issues are in this electorate, and that this is representative of the rest of QLD.  So bring along a friend, your midwife, and your partner and let's show we need to make  maternity care better for QLD women and babies. Please spread the word about this meeting.

If you’ve never come along to an MC meeting, we always welcome new faces and we’ll greet you with a smile, and make you feel welcome.

Please RSVP to me if you are coming along (let me know how many are coming in your car) and if you need a hand with transport there.
